Scholarships

The Northwestern High School Alumni Association Scholarship is a scholarship program created by the Northwestern High School Alumni Association of Detroit, Michigan. The purpose of the Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to selected Northwestern High School graduates obtaining post-secondary education at accredited institutions.

Our Mission

The Northwestern High School Alumni Association mission is to help supplement academic and non-academic programs and support the school wherever possible. In an effort to foster these goals, the Alumni Association’s purpose is:

To promote a greater sense of cooperation and loyalty among alumni, students and Northwestern High School thereby continuing to build on the strong legacy left by the original founders of this organization.

To provide scholarship assistance to graduates of Northwestern High School.

To engage in social, recreational and other non-profit activities.

NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Northwestern High School Alumni Association Scholarship is a scholarship program created by the Northwestern High School Alumni Association of Detroit, Michigan. The purpose of the Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to selected Northwestern High School graduates obtaining post-secondary education at accredited institutions. Non-renewable scholarships of up to $1000 for tuition, books or other miscellaneous educational expenses are awarded.

CRITERIA

Graduate of Northwestern High School, Detroit, Michigan with a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average.

An applicant must be pursuing full-time post-secondary education. The “full-time” definition used by the applicable university will be used to determine eligibility.

Demonstrate financial need beyond what the applicant can contribute.

Have exemplary character, leadership and a desire to

achieve significant education beyond High School.

SCHOLARSHIP DISTRIBUTION PAYMENT

Award payments will be made to the recipient. Payments may be applied to tuition and fees, or miscellaneous educational expenses as designated by the recipient.

Award payments will be made as soon as (1) the recipient has signed and returned the scholarship application to Northwestern High School Alumni Association (2) the recipient has verified the attending educational institution by attaching a copy of the college/university’s letter of acceptance to the application (3) The award is approved by the Northwestern High School Alumni Association Scholarship Committee after verification of your enrollment and attendance has been made.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Complete the Scholarship Application Form and return it to Northwestern High School Alumni Association.

Provide an official Northwestern High School transcript.

Have a teacher and another adult complete the 2 Applicant Recommendation forms. Return completed forms to Northwestern High School Alumni Association.

Attach a copy of the college/university’s letter of acceptance to the application.

SCHOLARSHIP NOTIFICATION

Notification will be made as soon as possible following a review of the completed application.

AWARD NOTIFICATION

The Northwestern High School Alumni Association Scholarship Committee must receive all information by May 1, 2026. Notifications will be made as soon as possible following a review of the completed application.

APPLICANT RECOMMENDATION FORM

To be completed by a recent teacher or another adult (other than family members) familiar with your school, work or community involvement. Submit one recommendation per person. All materials must be typed or neatly printed in blue or black ink. All supplemental materials must be clearly labeled and securely attached to this form. Submit this form by May 1, 2026
